Nestled in the very heart of the Yarraville Village, where you have PLUMP for organic produce and CHALK for children’s toys and clothing (among many other proudly independent boutiques), PEEP is your boutique optical store serving the inner west community – from Seddon to Footscray, Newport to Williamstown and Altona to Point Cook.

Peep was founded in 2016 by our optometrist Alison, who has been attending the Sun Theatre for a movie fix over many years.

With so much character in the village and support for independent makers, our eyewear collection needed to reflect these values and Alison has travelled to optical fairs overseas to bring you an eyewear collection you won’t find anywhere else.

Inspiration

Optometrist Yarraville

Drawing inspiration from minimalist boutique eyewear stores from overseas, which display only a handful of frames with the remainder hidden from view to be personally selected by an expert optical dispenser, PEEP chooses to stock a limited number of brands on our shelves to create distinct pockets of brand identity and personality.

Meet your Optometrist

Since graduating from The University of Melbourne in 2008 as one of the first cohorts certified to prescribe ocular medications, your optometrist Alison has dedicated her career to providing great personal service in boutique independent practices around Melbourne.

When not working in inner-city Melbourne, Alison has had extensive experience practicing in regional Victoria.

Spending a month at the Guanajuato Eye Care Centre in Mexico in 2008 opened her eyes to the role of primary eye care in preventing avoidable blindness and the importance of diet and general health in ensuring good ocular health. Sparking an interest in the Spanish language, Alison completed a Diploma of Languages at RMIT in 2015 and eye examinations can now also be conducted in (broken) Spanish!

Design

Our space was designed by friends and architects Fowler and Ward (awarded Emerging Designer 2020, Australian Interior Design Awards —see more of their work); and constructed by Brunswick based carpenter Scott of Roopa Corp.

The team wanted to build an environment that is innovative, fresh and not clinical – to create a retail experience that is enjoyable and reflects the unique style of the local village.
