Nestled in the very heart of the Yarraville Village, where you have PLUMP for organic produce and CHALK for children’s toys and clothing (among many other proudly independent boutiques), PEEP is your boutique optical store serving the inner west community – from Seddon to Footscray, Newport to Williamstown and Altona to Point Cook.
PEEP was founded in 2016 by our optometrist Alison, who had been coming to the Sun Theatre for a movie fix for many years. With so much character in the village and support for independent labels, our eyewear collection needed to reflect these values and she has travelled to optical fairs overseas to bring you an eyewear collection you won’t find anywhere else.
Drawing inspiration from minimalist boutique eyewear stores from overseas, some of which only display a handful of frames with the remainder hidden from view to be personally selected by an optical dispenser, PEEP chooses to stock only a limited number of brands on our shelves to create pockets of brand identity and personality on display.
We pride ourselves in being face experts and can guide you in your eyewear journey to update or complement your current glasses.
Designed by friends and architects Fowler and Ward (awarded Emerging Designer 2020, Australian Interior Design Awards, http://www.fowlerandward.com/ to see more of their work);
and constructed by Brunswick based carpenter Scott of Roopa Corp, the team wanted to build a space that is innovative, fresh and not clinical – to create a retail experience that is enjoyable, fun and reflects the unique style of the local village.
meet your optometrist
Since graduating from The University of Melbourne in 2008 as one of the first cohorts certified to prescribe ocular medications, your optometrist Alison has dedicated her career to providing great personal service in boutique independent practices around Melbourne. When not working in inner-city Melbourne, Alison has had extensive experience practicing in regional Victoria. She has for the past 6 years and still does regular work for a private practice in Mildura.
Spending a month at the Guanajuato Eye Care Centre in Mexico in 2008 opened Alison’s eyes to the role of primary eye care in preventing avoidable blindness and the importance of diet and general health in ensuring good ocular health. Sparking an interest in the Spanish language, Alison completed a Diploma of Languages at RMIT in 2015 and eye examinations can now also be conducted in somewhat fluent Spanish!
As a specs wearer from a young age, she understands what a great pair of glasses or contact lenses can do. Now with over 10 years’ experience in the optical industry, she has travelled the world to bring you an eyewear collection that you won’t find anywhere else.
Comprehensive eye examinations include testing of your vision and a thorough eye health check. Medicare bulk billing is available for pensioners, health care card holders and students in primary and secondary schooling.
